Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is a procedure that reshapes excess gum and bone tissue to expose more of your natural teeth. Typically, crown lengthening is done to repair or restore teeth below the gum line or to prepare teeth for a crown or bridge. Note that crowns or bridges should be place by your dentist approximately six weeks after this procedure is performed.

Crown lengthening may also be desirable for aesthetic purposes. If your teeth appear too short and you feel you have a “gummy” smile, it may be because your gums cover too much of your teeth. By exposing more of your natural teeth, crown lengthening can address this concern.
